Mmmmm. It's official! The wonderfully warm tastes and smells of fall are here. Most people know I am quite the coffee addict. However, I am more of an espresso + milk kind of gal. My taste for coffee has become more and more bitter over the years. Most specialty drinks now taste like pure sugar. I still thought I should give the new edition to the Starbucks fall menu a try. The only problem, I can't stand to drink hot coffee. I opted to try it in frappucinno form, not once, but twice! I know from over ordering at Starbucks that baristas can make a drink slightly different than one another. I figured I would have to try it at least twice to give a proper review.
The first time I order the drink I was impressed. It wasn't bad. I really tasted graham cracker and marshmallow. My boyfriend and I wondered if the whip topping was a special marshmallow flavor. We did enjoy the cracker dust sprinkled on top. Although, it did not taste like coffee AT ALL to either of us. I like my coffee pretty bitter usually and he enjoys it with a lot of cream, so on the opposite end of the spectrum we both could not taste coffee. Sip by sip the drink seemed more like a dessert. Once I got towards the end of the some what melted drink it got over powered in sweetness. I suggest stirring this treat a little bit as you guzzle it down, fast or slow.
The prices of the these fall drinks are a bit ridiculous. They know people will buy them and they can make a fortune, $4.55 for a tall, $4.95 for a grande, and $5.25 for a venti.
If your craving that yummy coffee taste don't expect one. I think the small bit of espresso is what gives the drink a toasted taste, but is more like milk + sugar, not that is a completely bad thing!
As listed on the Starbucks site this fall drink has "Graham and sweet cream mingle with coffee, milk and ice in the blender, then get a topping of sweetened whipped cream, cinnamon sprinkle and graham crumbles for a flavor that's toasty and tasty. " Which comes through the straw like a super sweet dessert!
The overal experience of trying this new edition was not bad the first or second time. It isn't much of a coffee beverage in my opinion more like a sweet almost ice cream like drink, Vanilla Bean Frappuccino style. I don't think it is a bad idea to treat yourself to this drink one or two times this season. However, I think your taste buds will be satisfied with a one time occasion.
